The Block-free lens production system
The first phase performs the measurement of the front curvature in order to determine the actual curvature and, by comparing it with the theoretical one, compensates the subsequent machining processes when necessary.
The block-free generation process is managed by the second cell. The high-speed milling unit performs blank cribbing and surface roughing. The diamond turning unit, designed by MEI’s R&D team and manufactured by the MEI’s production plant, completes surface finishing.
The following cell engraves the semi-visible progressive reference layout by a short pulse gas-free laser.
The polishing cell has parallel stations which minimize the polishing liquid usage and prolong the polishing tools’ life, making the laser engravings even more visible. The lens is washed to remove the polishing liquid residues and let the following accurate lens analysis. The last cell performs power matching by comparing real results with the theoretical design.
Measurement is done in real-time on 100% of lenses without affecting machine throughput.
